Dominique Haverlan bought the vineyards at Vieux Château Gaubert in 1981 and then bought the run-down 18th century château itself in 1988. Both were rather dilapidated but Dominique concentrated on replanting plots of the 16 hectares of vines and building a 1,000 barrel winery before taking on the house. He won plaudits for his early wines and has been making exceptionally good Graves ever since.
The 2010 vintage was an incredible vintage and responsible for some well-structured, long living wines, that are perfect for cellaring and full of potential. Here in Graves Chateau Gaubert have produced a wine that is classic in style but much more approachable; rich and savoury with red and black fruits, tobacco, sweet spices and toasted oak. Nicely developed, it's ready for drinking now and over the next two or three years. Great with game dishes, or grilled red meat.
