The Chablis Grand Cru appellation is reserved for the most prestigious terroirs covering some 100 hectares producing only 5,500 hectolitres, with nearly all planted in the commune of Chablis. They are situated on the right banks of the river Serein in the most favourable soils, enriched by tiny fossil oysters and consist of only seven localities called climats. These are – Les Blanchots – Bougros – Les Clos – Grenouilles – Les Preuses – Valmur and Vaudesir. These constitute the finest that Chablis has to offer with an ageing ability of 15 to 20 years.
This indulgent wine, of which 20% was matured in French barrels, has glorious white flower aromas with notes of citrus, honey and of course an intense flintiness. The oak is not evident on the nose. The palate is intense with a wonderful texture, vibrancy and of course incredible length. This is racy, thrilling and exactly how a great Grand Cru Chablis should present.
