This cuvée comes from a single plot located in Davayé, on the foot of the Roche de Vergisson. This plot is covered with calcareous rocks. The expression Terres Noires comes from the colour of the subsoil - rich in humus. Half of the vines are about sixty years old and their exposure to the south allows them to receive strong sunshine. Winemakers Jean-Luc Terrier and Christian Collovray of Domaine des Deux Roches have built up an impressive array of vineyards in Burgundy, today owning around 50 hectares.
Terres Noires is a single vineyard on the south side of the landmark rock of Solutré, with limestone mixed with black decomposed rock. A deft use of oak on these old vine wines have made for a nicely textured, drinkable burgundy from the Maconnais. It has a richness and supple acidity that makes it a regular favourite.
