Reyneke Sauvignon Blanc Biodynamic

Having an holistic approach to agriculture is hugely important to Reyneke. This is reflected in their approach to the vineyards, vegetable gardens, the farm, animal husbandry and the people. The vineyards are herbicide, pesticide and fungicide free. Instead of spraying weeds with poison, they carefully select companion plants amongst the vines to out compete the weeds. These companion plants have the ability to fix nitrogen from the atmosphere, help break up compacted soil or even harbour a beneficial insect or two. The Reyneke farm is replacing natural fungicides with biological controls like trichoderma and metabolite.

They add specific biodynamic preparations to our compost and apply directly to the vineyards. Consisting of specially formulated herbal, mineral and organic substances that enhance the soil, and simultaneously boost plant and animal life.

The holy grail of winemaking is to produce a wine which is unique to its terroir – a wine that honestly reflects the soil, prevailing climate and method of cultivation. The Biodynamic range is exactly this: wines with a true Reyneke identity. All the grapes are grown by Johan on the Reyneke farms. The adjacent farms overlook False Bay from Polkadraai Hills just outside of Stellenbosch, and have decomposed granitic soils, which make unique perfumed and elegant wines with depth and structure. All wines in this range are vegan-friendly and biodynamic (Demeter Certified).

The Reyneke Sauvignon Blanc Biodynamic is fermented in well-seasoned French barrels and aged for eight months on the gross lees. A bit of sulphur was added prior to bottling only.

This vibrant Sauvignon Blanc bursts with notes of lime and elderflower, with hints of blackcurrant and fennel on the nose. The palate shows a lovely brightness and distinct notes of lemon and lime on the palate. An elegant wine, with great acidity and a nice round finish, that is enjoyable now, but can also be drunk over the next 5 years.
