Galius, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

Since its formation in the 1930s, the Saint-Emilion Producers’ Union has greatly evolved. From a group of six founding winemakers, the Union has expanded to welcome a further 164 growers. The Union aims to pool the resources of wine-producers in terms of production and the marketing of their stock.

Galius St Emilion Grand Cru is named after a Roman soldier who settled in Bordeaux after receiving land for his military service, Galius lives up to its namesake delivering powerful favours enriched with old-world complexity, depth, and minerality, balanced with military precision.

Farmed sustainably, with terroir on the front lines, Galius’s eleven hectares of half-century-year-old vines grown in clay-limestone soils produce fruit with intense minerality and penetrating focus. Fermented in stainless-steel tanks for freshness and polished by 15 months in oak, the blend is 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, with Merlot contributing rich, supple approachability and Cab Franc adding floral characteristics and heightened refinement.

Fruity nose of black currants, plums, cooked cherries, cedar, leather, vanilla, black licorice, tobacco leaf, earth, herbs, spices and peppercorn.
