Chassagne-Montrachet, Jacques Carillon

Chassagne-Montrachet, Jacques Carillon

The Carillon family has been making wine in the village of Puligny-Montrachet since the 16th century, beginning with Jehan Carillon, who was a vintner in Puligny in 1520. Chassagne-Montrachet is located on a 305-hectare vineyard at an altitude of 220-325 meters. It basks on a rocky, limestone-rich hillside in the south of the Côte de Beaune that varies from marl to sand, depending on the exact location. The area is bordered by marble quarries that form a rocky border in the soil.

They practice integrated pest management, and only when necessary. No use herbicides, and they cultivate the fields by hand. Carillon wines are known for their minerality, their body, their subtlety and their characteristic local essence. The winemaking and grape-growing methods are traditional; grapes harvested by hand for the highest-possible quality.

The 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet is a full wine with developing richness and a lovely mineral finish. It has a generous and mellow richness with lemon, grapefruit and apricot flavours. A touch of minerality on the nicely extended finish with a well-balanced subtle creaminess from the oak. This wine will continue to develop weight over the next 3 years.
